Notion Mail

Notion bought Skiff, a security-minded productivity startup, and spent the following year turning it into Notion Mail, a client that sat on top of Gmail and did the sorting: auto-labelling, filtering, scheduling, snippets. It reached general availability in April 2025 and, by the ordinary measures, worked. What killed it was the thing Notion built next door. As the company's agents got better at handling email end to end, more than half of Notion Mail's users were managing their mail without ever opening the inbox, which is a remarkable engagement number and a fatal one, because an email client nobody opens is a rendering engine with a support budget. Notion announced in June 2026 that Mail closes on September 22, 2026, with the agents inheriting the workflows and users left to export their drafts, scheduled sends, and auto-label instructions by hand. The mail itself was never in danger, since it had always lived in Gmail; what ended was the interface Notion built to stand between the two.
