Bud (formerly Orchids)

Kevin Lu and Bach Tran came out of Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch with Orchids, a builder that took a description of an application and returned a deployed one, for the web, for mobile, for Slack, for the browser. They renamed it Bud and widened the claim to an agent with a computer, able to browse, write code, assemble documents, and work unattended. The difficulty with a product defined by how little the user needs to know is that Figma, Lovable, Replit, and Base44 were all shipping the same convenience on the same schedule, and the BBC had reported a security researcher's finding that apps built on Orchids were susceptible to cyberattacks. Figma took the team on July 7, 2026 and gave the users eleven days: everything hosted on Orchids and Bud went dark on July 18, with instructions to download the code or push it to GitHub and find somewhere else to host it. The engineers went to work on Figma's own app-building tools, alongside Figma Make, which is the product that had been eating theirs.
